A work dispute that began before Passover is beginning to affect the lives of local residents as after-school care (Tzaharonim) workers declared they will strike on Monday. As we wrote about a month ago, the workers are unhappy with having had to take extra children into their care over the holidays. In addition, they are demanding better benefits and are protesting against a municipal decision to not allow them to accrue an extra year of tenure next year.
Representatives of the Tzaharonim point to their conditions as the reason for the high turnover in their field. They claim that the municipalities stinginess is leading to the employment of inexperienced after-school care workers, something which parents should be bothered by as well.
