In honor of Israel’s 70th Independence Day (Yom HaAtzmaut), a massive Israeli flag has been unfurled over the roof of the President’s Residence in a joint effort between rappelling experts and the IDF’s satellite unit.
Manufactured over a span of ten days in the Krayot, the 1,500 square meter, 270-kilogram flag required a special printing press to complete. Due to the secure nature of the building, special clearances were granted to fly a drone over the area in order to photograph the flag from above.
Despite its massive size, this is not the biggest Israeli flag ever made. The world record for the largest Israeli flag, which measured 660 by 100 meters and weighed 5.2 tonnes, was set near Masada in 2007 by Filipino entrepreneur Grace Galindez-Gupana.
The flag will remain in place until Jerusalem Day (Yom Yerushalayim) on May 13.
