Kol Ha’ir reports that a planned Municipal Union strike will get underway on June 27th. While the head of Jerusalem’s Histadrut branch Dani Bonfil had previously declared a labor dispute, now the strike has an official date. Discussions are ongoing to keep the workers on the job.
If a strike takes place, it would mean no garbage pickup, the closure of schools and kindergartens, and no public reception hours in municipal buildings.
According to the union, the strike is taking place due to excessive use of contract workers (who operate outside of the union), outsourcing of municipal jobs, the municipality failing to live up to collective bargaining agreements, and disregard for the workers as shown by the cancellation of parking agreements.
