Hundreds of Haredi Jews are protesting at Kikar Shabbat in the Mea Shearim neighborhood. The subject of the protest is an Ashkelon court’s decision to arrest the parents of a one-month-old infant who drowned in an Ashkelon hotel Jacuzzi. In addition, the court has ordered an autopsy to be performed on the body. According to some Jewish legal decisions, autopsies can never be performed under any circumstances. The protests are disrupting traffic at a spot that connects the center of the city to the neighborhoods on the outskirts, like Ramot.
According to the mother of the child, the baby slipped from her arms while she was in a Jacuzzi as her husband slept.
An additional protest is expected to begin at 4:30 on Yermiyahu, Bar Ilan and Shmuel HaNavi Streets as 63 Yeshiva students are expected to be released from jail
