The Jerusalem District Committee has approved of the construction of an eight-story tower to be built above the nearly-completed WeWork Jerusalem. A total of 98 new apartments and a municipal kindergarten will occupy the additional space.
The structure is being built atop the former home of Hamashbir Lezarchan, a department store that served as a staple of King George Street until it moved to a new location in Zion Square in 2011. A plan to convert the building into a WeWork co-working space was revealed in 2016.
WeWork was co-founded in 2010 by Israeli-native Adam Neumann. It has since grown to over 270 locations, including Tel Aviv. The Jerusalem location, which will be the first in Israel’s capital, is expected to begin operating in October with spaces starting at 2,100 NIS per month.
