Kiel (dpa) – THW Kiel rehabilitated himself with a clear derby victory over SG Flensburg-Handewitt for his moderate start to the Bundesliga handball season.
Thanks to the remarkable return Niklas Landin in the goal, the record champions won with 29:21 (12:10). Barely three and a half weeks after his knee surgery, Landin put on spectacular parades on his surprising comeback in front of 2,400 spectators and drove the injured Flensburgers to despair.
Kiel’s top scorers were Domagoj Duvnjak and Harald Reinkind, each with five goals. For the SG, who conceded his first Bundesliga defeat this season, Jim Gottfridsson was the most successful with seven goals.
As superstar Sander Sagosen celebrated his return to THW Kiel, alongside Landin, the staff situation at Flensburg remains tense. The finalist showed a combative performance in Kiel, but failed again and again on Landin. And by the second round at the latest, the THW aggressively turned on the tired guests.
